As more and more walkers discover the joys of the Cape to Cape Track, looking after it becomes an ever-growing challenge. A very positive way in which you can help care for this wonderful Track, and ensure its future, is to join the Friends. Your small annual subscription will help to provide a strong administrative base from which the Track can be maintained, and from which much-needed funding can be sought. You will receive a quarterly newsletter full of updates and information, a program of minimal-cost day and half-day walks with the Friends throughout the year, discounts on services and products, and the satisfaction of helping to improve and care for one of South West Australia's greatest walks.
Our aims are to:
Support DEC in fulfilling the objectives of the Cape to Cape Track Management Plan;
Raise and accept funds for the development and maintenance of the Track through grant applications and other appropriate means;
Increase appreciation of the Track and its benefits and awareness of its vulnerability;
Encourage community ownership of the Track and involvement with its development and maintenance; and
Encourage the principles of minimum impact bushwalking, and sustainable environmental useage.
Benefits of Membership:
Regular newsletters;
Great half-day walks at minimal cost;
Discounts on products and publications;
Discounts at participating retail stores/service providers;
Free bumper sticker; and
Satisfaction in helping to improve and look after our walktrack!
Membership rates are $20 for an individual, $25 for a family and $55 Corporate. Please write to PO Box 1037 MARGARET RIVER WA 6285, to join.
Donations are also very welcome. They should be posted to the above address also, or we can give you our bank details for direct transfer.
Adoptees Program
One very valuable function of the Friends has been the development of a Track Maintenance Program, where-by members (individuals, groups, families) elect to 'adopt' a section of track. They carry out basic maintenance such as light pruning, replacing posts and markers, minor erosion control, bush rehabilitation and litter collection. And they watch out for, and report any major problems that may occur. Anyone interested in becoming an Adoptee should contact Jim McLachlan on 97572808
